SAFE

Strong Autistic Female Empowered

The reason behind the SAFE initiative is to give females on the spectrum a voice, also to heighten awareness and acceptance, by asking females on the spectrum to share their stories, and step forward not just as positive role models for those on the spectrum but for all females, of all ages and abilities.

We're very thankful for the autism awareness these ladies and all the other ambassadors raise around the world.

Thank you!

#shiningthroughthespectrum #daretobedifferent

For what seems like an eternity, many people around the world were largely unaware that ASC was something which could be diagnosed in both males and females, not just a male only condition. This brought about a situation where much less was known about females on the spectrum than males and the world has been playing catch up ever since. Thankfully, the world is catching up now.

When looking at the mainstream media industry, finding positive male ASC role models for those on the spectrum is difficult enough, let alone finding positive female ASC role models. We at FFA have discussed this many times. Have a think yourself..... How many positive ASC male characters can you think of in TV or films for example? Now think of how many positive female ASC characters? We have heard that MARVEL is attempting to rectify this situation with current and future projects, which will be amazing, but it's not till you spend some time thinking about it that you realise how under-represented those with ASC are in TV & Film.

We're lucky here at FFA to have such fantastic role models as these ladies championing the SAFE initiative. and you can read more about SAFE and these wonderful ladies on our blog page.
